What Happened at End of Handmaid's Tale
Let me set the scene. June Osborne (our indomitable, rage-filled queen) has spent six seasons defying Gilead. She’s been beaten, exiled, forced to leave her daughter, and she’s killed a bunch of awful people. You’d think she’d catch a break, right?
Nope. The final season is not a victory lap. It’s a slow, brutal burn. Gilead is crumbling, but it’s taking everyone with it.
And then there’s Commander Lawrence. That scheming, chaotic-neutral genius with the sweater vests. He stages a “peace summit” with Canada and the US. Spoiler alert: it’s a trap, and it goes spectacularly wrong.
The Big, Bloody Confrontation
The climax happens during that peace summit. It’s supposed to be a handshake for the history books. Instead, it becomes a massacre—Gilead soldiers open fire on the attendees.
June, of course, is right in the middle. She’s not hiding. She’s running toward the gunfire to save her daughter, Hannah. Because that’s what moms do, apparently.
But here’s the kicker: June doesn’t save Hannah. Not directly, anyway. Hannah is dragged away by a group of rebels called the Mayday resistance. They’re a shadowy group that’s been hinted at forever, and they finally show up in the nick of time. Phew.
