What to Do If You Find a Dead Cat
If you find a dead cat and it’s clearly someone’s pet, an animal shelter might take it. They can scan for a microchip and contact the owner. This is the kindest option if you can manage the transport.
Wrap the cat in a towel or old blanket. Treat it with dignity. Yes, it’s a little weird to cuddle a deceased animal, but you’re showing respect. Place it in a box, label it “DOA Cat—Do Not Open,” and drive it to the nearest shelter.
Expect to cry in the car. That’s normal. You’re a person with a heart. You’re allowed a moment of grief for a stranger’s fuzzy friend.
