Manchester Institute of Health and Performance
Surprisingly, everyday humans. Sure, you might spot a Manchester City player recovering from an injury (and trying to hide their identity under a hoodie). But most members are regular folks—mums, dads, accountants, and that one guy who wants to run a marathon without crying.
There’s a strong sense of community. People cheer each other on, even if your “personal best” is just doing five push-ups without collapsing. The staff are rogue supportive; they won’t let you quit, but they’ll also laugh with you when you try a new exercise and fall over.
Recovery: The Secret Sauce
At MIHP, they treat recovery like it’s a sport. They have a cryotherapy chamber (think: standing in a freezer for three minutes while feeling like a very cold Viking). They also have compression boots that squeeze your legs like a loving python.
It’s almost too relaxing. You can spend an hour just floating in their hydrotherapy pool or getting a sports massage. It makes you wonder why you ever went to a standard gym where the “recovery” area is a decrepit foam roller.
