Menace 2 Society Cast
Let’s give it up for Jada Pinkett Smith, playing Ronnie, the girlfriend who is basically a saint with a frying pan. She’s the only character who seems to have read a book about financial planning, which in this movie makes her a unicorn. Jada was barely 22 and already had the “I’m tired of your nonsense” face perfected. Fun fact: she later admitted she got the role after reading for one minute and convincing the directors she could slap a man into shape. Queen behavior.

Then there’s Regina King as Iesha, the queen of side-eyes and terrible life choices. Regina was 21 and brought so much attitude that you feel like she’s about to throw a shoe through your TV screen. She later became an Oscar winner, but let’s be honest: her performance in Menace is proof that you don’t need a gold statue to be iconic. You just need a fierce wig and a disdain for parking lots.
The Veterans Who Stole the Show
We cannot forget Samuel L. Jackson as Tat Lawson, the uncle who drops wisdom like soggy bread. Sam appears for like five minutes, but he delivers the most devastating speech about the criminal justice system. It’s the kind of monologue that makes you want to write a letter to your congressman—right after you laugh because Sam’s voice is basically God’s thunder.
And oh, Bill Duke as the prison guard? That man has a face like a granite cliff and a voice that could order a burrito and make you feel guilty. He’s in the film for a hot second, but he leaves a mark like a branding iron. Duke is also a director, which means he probably yelled “Cut!” and then gave everyone a philosophy lesson. Respect.
