Puerto Rico Flag and Meaning
Look at that blue triangle on the left. It’s not just a triangle—it’s the three branches of government. Or is it the three mountains of the island? Or maybe it’s just a triangle, drawn by a designer who thought, “I need something for the star to sit on.” But the official meaning is simple: the three branches represent the executive, legislative, and judicial powers. That is, the people who argue about things, the people who write the arguments down, and the people who tell everyone to stop arguing.
And the star inside the triangle? Some say it represents the island itself, a lone treasure in a blue sea. Others say it’s the spirit of the people, shining despite the chaos. I like to think it’s the taíno sun, finally getting its portrait done in white. The Taíno natives didn’t have a flag with a star, so we gave them one retroactively. That’s how you show respect.
