Who Was the Blame for the Titanic Sinking
Frederick Fleet was the lookout in the crow’s nest. He had no binoculars that night because someone forgot to bring the key to the locker where they were stored. Seriously. It’s like going to the beach and realizing you left your sunscreen at home—just bad luck multiplied. He spotted the iceberg, but by then, it was too late.
Should he have seen it sooner? Maybe. But the night was unusually calm, with no wind or waves to break up the ice. The sea was like a mirror, making it harder to see the berg. So, is it his fault? No more than blaming the guy who spilled your coffee because the lid was loose. He did his job, but the system failed him.
