Did you know wood lice are not actually lice? They’re isopods, which means they have seven pairs of legs and love consuming their own feces to recycle nutrients. Gross, but efficient. They’re also one of the few critters that can roll into a perfect ball—hence “roly-poly”—a defense mechanism that’s basically the creature version of a panic room.
In some cultures, they are considered a symbol of good luck. So if you have a wood louse infestation, you might be swimming in prosperity—or just a lot of damp corners. The irony is that they’re more afraid of you than you are of them. They have no venom, no fangs, and no grand plan to conquer your kitchen.
