Rome’s giant amphitheater is basically an ancient version of a UFC arena. The Colosseum could hold up to 80,000 screaming fans. And the games? Less “sportsmanship,” more “lion vs. guy with a net.”

It survived earthquakes, fires, and centuries of people stealing its stones. Now it’s a crumbling icon of extreme entertainment. Seriously, imagine the concession stand: “One hot dog and a side of mortal combat, please!”

It’s still standing, though, which is more than I can say for my IKEA furniture after a year. Respect.

The Taj Mahal: A Love Story in Marble

This one is pure romance—or pure drama. The Taj Mahal was built by Emperor Shah Jahan for his wife, Mumtaz. He was so heartbroken when she died that he went full “build a white marble mausoleum” mode.

It took 20,000 workers and 20 years to finish. And the thing changes color depending on the light. In the morning, it’s pinkish. At night, it glows silver. It’s basically a mood ring for architecture.

Here’s the kicker: Shah Jahan planned a black marble version for himself across the river. He never got to build it. Sometimes, love doesn’t get a sequel. But the Taj Mahal is still the most beautiful tomb you’ll ever photograph from every angle.
