When Did Ukraine and Russia Start Fighting
From 1991 to 2013, things were... tense but quiet. Ukraine wanted to join Europe. Russia wanted it to stay in its backyard. The fight was fought with gas pipelines and trade wars—boring stuff.
Then, in November 2013, Ukraine’s president said "no thanks" to a big EU deal. People lost it. The Euromaidan protests erupted in Kyiv. Millions camped in the snow for months.
The 2014 Explosion
In February 2014, the president fled. Russia panicked. They sent tiny green men (soldiers without badges) to take over Crimea. March 2014: Russia annexed Crimea. After 23 years of peace, the gunfire was back.
It happened fast. Russia’s president said it was to protect ethnic Russians. Ukraine called it an invasion. The West called it illegal. One of the first casualties was a museum of Soviet history. Funny, right? No. But weirdly symbolic.
