Repel Flies with Vinegar
I get it. You don’t want your living room to smell like a deli. Here’s a pro tip: dilute the vinegar with a few drops of essential oil. Lemon, eucalyptus, or peppermint work great. Now you’ve got a fly-repelling potion that smells like a fancy spa, not a jar of pickles.
Another hack? Boil a small pot of vinegar on the stove for five minutes. The steam will carry the scent through your kitchen, creating an invisible force field flies can’t stand. It’s like when you open your fridge and the leftovers smell so bad you shut the door—except you’re the stinky thing, and the flies are running away.
The “I’m Too Lazy” Method
Maybe you don’t want to boil, spray, or trap. Fine. Just soak a rag in vinegar and drape it over your fruit bowl or near an open window. It’s the laziest fly repellent ever, and it works. I once did this while eating chips on the porch, and a fly literally hovered near my potato chip, sniffed the air, and did a 180. I felt like a wizard.
Just don’t sit the rag on wood (vinegar can dull finishes). Use an old plate or a window sill instead. Your furniture will thank you, and flies will curse your name in fly language.
