How High Do You Skydive
You’re falling at around 120 miles per hour—that’s as fast as a race car on a highway. In that one minute of freefall, you’ll drop almost a mile every 30 seconds.
It feels both incredibly fast and surprisingly slow. Your brain can’t process the speed, so it stretches time. Many first-timers say it feels like a long, peaceful rush.

Compare that to a roller coaster drop, which lasts maybe 3 seconds. A skydive freefall is like 20 roller coaster drops in a row. Pretty cool, right?
What About the View from Up There?
At 14,000 feet, you can see the curve of the Earth on a clear day. It’s not a trick—the horizon literally bends. Lakes look like shiny dimes, and cars are moving ants.
For a moment, you have a bird’s-eye view that eagles would envy. It’s the closest you’ll get to floating in space without a spaceship.
And then your instructor taps your shoulder, and you’re tumbling into the blue. No big deal.
