Nearest Underground Station to British Museum
Tottenham Court Road is the winner. It’s on the Central and Northern lines. Walk out, turn right, and you’ll hit the museum in about seven minutes.
Here’s the quirky bit: this station used to have a famous wombat signage. Yes, a giant cartoon wombat pointing to the British Museum. It was part of a public art project. Sadly, it’s gone now. But locals still whisper about it.
Holborn is your second-best bet. It’s on the Piccadilly and Central lines. The walk is a bit longer—about ten minutes—but you’ll pass Lincoln’s Inn Fields, a lovely park where you can spot lawyers eating lunch on benches.
Fun fact: Holborn station has the deepest lift shaft on the whole London Underground. If you take the lift, you drop 55 meters. That’s longer than a blue whale.
Russell Square is the third musketeer. It’s on the Piccadilly line. The walk is nine minutes, but it’s beautiful. You’ll stroll through leafy streets and past a hotel where Agatha Christie once stayed.
Quirky detail: Russell Square station has a tiny, hidden air-raid shelter from World War II. It’s now a storage room. But knowing it’s there makes the escalator ride feel epic.
