How to Freeze Cottage Pie
Once assembled (or prepared separately), you must protect your pie from the dreaded "freezer burn." That grey, frostbitten patch on the surface is a cry for help. Wrap the dish tightly in a layer of cling film, then a layer of heavy-duty foil. This double armor seals in the flavor.
Label it with a permanent marker. Write the date and the contents. You think you will remember what that foil lump is in three months—you will not. You will guess it is chili, and you will be wrong. Label it. Trust me.
