How to Know If a Sweet Potato Is Bad
Sometimes the outside looks fine, but you’re still unsure. If you’re really nervous, you can bake it as a test. Cut it open after baking. The inside should be a vibrant orange or yellow, smooth, and moist. If it’s gray, brown, or has weird stringy dark lines, don’t eat it.
Also, check for a strange, bitter taste. Take a tiny bite. If it’s bitter or makes your tongue feel tingly, that’s a rare but serious sign of a certain type of spoilage. Spit it out immediately.
That bitterness is like the potato’s last cry for help. Listen to it.
