2003 Lsu Tigers Football
This defense had a nickname: The Freak Show. It was led by Marquise Hill, a 6’7” defensive end who could swat passes like he was playing volleyball.
Then there was Chad Lavalais, the nose tackle who looked like a bear in a helmet. He once pancaked a quarterback so hard the ref’s flag flew out of his pocket. No penalty, of course.
Fun fact: This defense allowed only 11 touchdowns all season. Eleven. That’s fewer than some teams give up in October.
The Game That Broke the SEC
The SEC Championship against Georgia was pure insanity. LSU trailed 14-7 at halftime, looking lost. Then, Saban went full sorcerer in the locker room.
Suddenly, the Tigers scored 27 unanswered points. Georgia’s offense looked like they were playing in quicksand. The final score? 34-13. Georgia fans cried into their sweet tea.
That win punched LSU’s ticket to the Sugar Bowl. But the real drama was yet to come.
