Lake America Vs. Lake Ontario: Why Google Maps Shows Different Names by Country

話題沸騰中の Lake America Vs. Lake Ontario: Why Google Maps Shows Different Names by Countryについて、主要な情報を整理して公開しています。

It turns out that the name Lake Ontario was given by early European explorers, who named it after the Ontario region in Canada. But, if we dig deeper, we find that the name Lake America was actually used by some American cartographers back in the 18th century. So, it's not like the Canadians just made it up - there's some history behind it!

So, what's the deal with Google Maps showing different names? Well, it's all about geopolitics and cartographic conventions. You see, different countries have their own mapping agencies, and they might use different names for the same feature. It's like how some people call it soda, while others call it pop - same thing, different name!

But here's the cool part: this isn't just limited to Lake Ontario. There are many other places around the world where different countries use different names. It's like a big game of geographic telephone - where the name gets passed around and changed slightly each time. And Google Maps is just reflecting these differences, like a big cartographic mirror.
