How Many Ounces Are in a Liter of Liquid
If you pour a liter into a U.S. measuring cup, you’ll get about 33.8 ounces. But if you use a British Imperial cup? You’ll only get 35.2 ounces in that same liter. That’s a difference of about 1.4 ounces—enough to make your tea taste like betrayal.
Why does this happen? Because Britain decided their ounce should be slightly bigger, probably out of spite for the American Revolution. I’m not saying it’s a conspiracy, but I’m also not saying it’s not. Either way, if you’re following a recipe from a British bake-off show, your cake might sink if you grab the wrong ounce.
So the real answer is: it depends on whose ounce you’re using. But for 99% of humans living outside of royal decrees, stick with 33.8 ounces per liter. Your kidneys will thank you.
