Tfl - London Road User Charging
Just when you thought the Congestion Charge was enough, along came ULEZ (Ultra Low Emission Zone). It started small, then grew. And grew. And grew. In August 2026, it expanded to cover all of Greater London.
Imagine waking up one day to find your entire commute costs an extra £12.50 a day. That’s ULEZ. It’s not a “please don’t drive” tax—it’s a “don’t drive your dirty old car” tax. If your car isn’t up to Euro 6 standards (for diesel) or Euro 4 (for petrol), you’re paying.
Is your car ULEZ-compliant?
Probably. Most cars from 2015 onward are fine. But if you’re driving a 2003 Volkswagen Golf that “still has life in her,” I’ve got bad news. She’s a financial liability now. Sorry, Gertrude.
There’s a checker on the TfL website. Go look. I’ll wait. (You didn’t go, did you? Classic.)
