Who Is Eligible for Flu Vaccine
Here’s the funny part. For years, people with egg allergies were told to avoid the flu shot. Not anymore. Unless you have a severe, life-threatening reaction to eggs (like anaphylaxis), you’re good. Most people with garden-variety egg allergies can get the shot.
If you’re really worried, ask for an egg-free version. They exist. They’re fancy. But honestly, even the regular one is safe for 99% of egg-allergic people. Science is amazing.
The "Maybe Later" Group
What about people with chronic illnesses—asthma, diabetes, heart conditions? You are definitely eligible. In fact, you’re a priority. The flu can hit you harder. The vaccine is your shield. Get it. No excuses.
Cancer patients? Check with your oncologist. Usually yes, but timing might matter. If your immune system is weakened by chemo, you might need the shot anyway. Or you might wait. Your doctor knows your timeline.
HIV? Organ transplant? Autoimmune conditions? Generally yes, but with a caveat: you might not get the live nasal spray. The dead-virus shot is safer. Again, doctor’s call. But you’re not banned.
