Let’s do some quick math. An NBL star earning $500k is roughly the same as a high-level surgeon. But a surgeon doesn’t fly coach to Cairns for a game on Tuesday night. Ballers do. Blergh.

Now, shift your eyes to the WNBL. The women’s league? Yeah, the pay gap is even steeper. Many players earn less than $30,000 a season. That’s brutal. They moonlight as personal trainers or study at university just to keep the lights on.

Meanwhile, a NBA bench warmer makes more in a week than an NBL MVP makes in a year. I’m not saying the system is broken… but it’s definitely creaky. Like an old porch swing.
