What Is the Unit for Tension
The unit for tension is Newtons (or pounds-force, if you prefer). But more importantly, tension is the invisible glue of everyday life. It’s the reason bridges don’t collapse, your dog can’t escape, and your Christmas lights stay up.

Next time you tie your shoes, give a little nod to the Newton. That little unit is what keeps your laces snug. Without it, you’d be tripping over floppy strings all day.
A fun way to feel a Newton
Grab a small apple (about 100 grams). Hold it in your palm. The force of gravity pulling it down is roughly one Newton. Now imagine that apple sitting on a trampoline. The trampoline fabric pushes back with one Newton of tension.
When you hang that apple from a string, that string now carries one Newton of tension. Multiply that by a hundred apples, and you’ve got a pretty strong load. Suddenly, that picture hook doesn’t seem so simple, does it?
