Flying with Cracked Ribs
Let me back up. How does a person crack their ribs in the first place? Stupidity, mostly. I tripped over a dog toy—a squeaky hedgehog, no less—and landed on the corner of a coffee table.
The pain was immediate. It was like someone shoved a hot knitting needle between my bones. But did I see a doctor? Nope. Nope, nope, nope. I figured, “It’s just a bruise. I’ll walk it off.” Classic denial.
Three days later, I had a flight to catch. A five-hour flight. A packed five-hour flight in a middle seat. Did I cancel? No, because I’m an idiot and the tickets were non-refundable.
