The Ludoquist - Board Game Cafe Bar
The wall behind the counter is a multicolor landslide of board games. There are classics like Monopoly (please don’t play Monopoly—save yourself) and Turbo Tax Simulator (just kidding, but close). Then there are the weird ones—games with names like “Cockroach Poker” and “Exploding Kittens.” I spotted a game called “The Grizzled” and immediately felt profound emotional weight before even reading the box. The staff, by the way, are nerd-saviors. They’ll look at your group of four exhausted adults and say, “You look like you want to ruin a friendship. Try this one.”
The bar: Where your drink becomes a game piece
Yes, you can get a proper pint here. Or a cocktail that sounds like a D&D spell—think “Siren’s Seduction” with passion fruit and vodka. But here’s the best part: they do board-game-themed cocktails. I ordered a “Catan-hopper” once, and the bartender served it in a hexagonal glass with a tiny sheep stirrer. I almost felt bad drinking it. Almost. The coffee is solid too—if you’re the sort of person who needs caffeine to strategize your conquest of Europe in Risk. (I am that person. No judgment.)
But let’s be real: the food matters when you’ve been staring at a Settlers of Catan board for three hours. The Ludoquist does seriously good nachos. Like, sharing-platter nachos that become a negotiation tool—“I’ll let you build a settlement if you pass me the guacamole.” The flatbreads are also excellent, especially the one with roasted peppers and goat cheese. It’s the kind of food that doesn’t demand attention, which is perfect when your attention is on trying to dominate the spice trade in Dune.
