Who's in the Jungle
Even the grocery store is a mini-jungle. Ever try to navigate the produce section on a Saturday? It’s a full-blown safari. The guy who stops his cart in the middle of the aisle to stare at avocados? That’s a hippo—huge, immovable, and mildly dangerous. The woman who rushes past you with military precision? Cheetah. And the old man sniffing every melon like it might talk back? That’s a sloth bear—fascinating, but you don’t want to get too close. I once saw a woman have a full conversation with a pineapple. She asked it, “Are you ready, buddy?” The pineapple didn’t answer. She bought it anyway. Who is in the jungle? That woman. That woman is in the jungle.
The thing is, we’re all in this jungle together. You can’t escape it. You try to be the wise old elephant, calm and patient, but then you stub your toe on the coffee table and turn into a screeching lemur. I did that last week—limbed around, hissing at furniture. My dog looked at me like, “Who are you, and where did my human go?” The jungle doesn’t care about your zen vibes. It just keeps throwing tigers (deadlines), parrots (noise), and the occasional poison dart frog (that one passive-aggressive neighbor who leaves notes about trash cans).

Finding Your Tribe
The trick is figuring out who belongs in your particular patch of jungle. The friends who don’t make you feel like you’re being hunted? They’re keystone species—the ones who hold your forest together. My buddy Dave is a giant anteater—slow, goofy, surprisingly good at finding snacks. My sister is a sugar glider—small, hyper, and always trying to steal my fries. You need those animals. They make the chaos funny. They make the jungle feel like a campfire instead of a survival show.
So next time you feel like you’re lost in the wild—traffic, group texts, family dinners, spreadsheets—just take a breath. Ask yourself: Who’s in this jungle with me? Is that a gorilla boss or just a stressed human who forgot to eat lunch? Is that hyena laugh genuine or nervous? And most importantly, are you the meerkat, the turtle, or the one barking at a pineapple? The answer is usually funnier than you think. And that, my friend, is how you survive the jungle without losing your sense of humor—or your mind. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go wrestle a printer that’s pretending to be a python.
