Plot Summary of Lord of the Flies

Plot Summary of Lord of the Fliesの概要と注目ポイントをわかりやすく整理しました。

One of the biggest plot points is the signal fire. It’s the only thing that might get them rescued. But guess what? The boys assigned to tend the fire get distracted. By what? Pig-hunting. Of course.

In one gut-wrenching scene, a ship passes by, and the fire is out. The chance for rescue vanishes because Jack’s crew was busy killing a pig. Ralph yells at them, and Jack just grins, dripping with pig blood. It’s at this point you realize: things are not going to end well.

The Littluns and the Beast

There are these younger kids, called “littluns,” who are mostly useless. They cry a lot and have nightmares about a beast in the jungle. The older boys use this fear to manipulate them. Jack says, “I’ll protect you from the beast!” Everyone claps. It’s the oldest political trick in the book: find a monster, promise to slay it.

Spoiler: the beast isn’t a real monster. It’s a dead parachutist that swings in the wind, but the boys’ imaginations turn it into a demon. Shakespeare couldn’t have written it better—except this play is a lot messier and full of war paint.
