The Swan Hotel - Jd Wetherspoon
A trip to the loo at The Swan Hotel is an adventure in itself. The pub is often a maze of narrow corridors, sudden steps, and mysterious doors. You’ll walk past the kitchen and hear the clatter of plates and a staff member shouting, “Two breakfast clubs, hold the beans!”
The toilets are always surprisingly clean, though. I once walked in and saw a man drying his hands with the air dryer while humming the Game of Thrones theme. Normal stuff. It’s the kind of place where you’ll accidentally make eye contact with a stranger and both nod, acknowledging the shared struggle of finding your table again.

My favourite memory? My mate tripped over a step near the fire exit, and three different random customers helped him up. That’s The Swan Hotel in a nutshell: chaotic, a little clumsy, but deeply kind.
The Regulars: Your Unpaid Co-Stars
You can’t talk about a ‘Spoons without mentioning the regulars. There’s Dave, who sits at the same stool by the window, nursing a single coffee for two hours. He’s a philosopher without the fancy words, and he’ll tell you his life story if you give him a nod.
Then there’s the group of friends who meet every Tuesday for “Quiz Night.” They take it seriously—whispering, writing on napkins, getting genuinely angry about a question about capital cities. It’s like watching an Olympics of pub trivia.
And the staff. Bless the staff. They move with the grace of a sleep-deprived ninja, clearing glasses and wiping tables with a cloth that has seen better days. They’ll always smile, even when you’re the tenth person to ask for ketchup that day.
