Road Closures Central London This Weekend
First up, we have the marathons, the protests, and the "pop-up" markets that mysteriously block your route. This weekend is no different. You’ve got the London Marathon in spirit—okay, maybe not the official one, but something very athletic is happening near The Mall.
Don’t even think about driving through Trafalgar Square on Saturday afternoon. It’ll be a sea of Lycra and determined faces. Your car will look about as welcome as a pigeon at a wedding.
And let’s not forget the West End theatre traffic. Everyone wants to see that sold-out show, including the entire population of the Home Counties. They’re all in their Fiestas, circling for a parking spot like vultures.
The Black Spots: Where to Avoid
Regent Street is a big one. It’s apparently a pedestrian paradise this weekend for some sort of "Summer Streets" event. That means no cars. None. Zip. Nada. If you drive there, you’ll just be a very expensive, very confused piece of modern art.
Waterloo Bridge? Forget it. It’s a slow-moving car park on a good day. This weekend, with the closures, it’s basically a parking lot with a view of the London Eye. Bring a sandwich and a good podcast.
King's Cross is normally a nightmare anyway, but this weekend they’re resurfacing the road near the station. Expect a maze of temporary barriers that look like a toddler’s toy set exploded. Just follow the angry-looking men in hi-vis vests.
