How Many Volcanoes on Oahu
If you want to see an active volcano, hop a plane to the Big Island. But if you want to hike, snorkel, and pose for selfies in craters that look like they might erupt (but won’t), Oahu is your paradise. So go ahead, stand on the rim of Diamond Head, and shout, “I’m on a volcano!” Just don’t expect any fireworks.
And remember: Every grain of black sand on Oahu’s beaches used to be fiery, molten rock. That’s right—you’re basically sunbathing on the ashes of ancient rage. But it’s a really relaxing rage. Pack your sunscreen, bring a volcano pun (I’ll start: “Oahu is lava-ly in the summer”), and enjoy the fact that the island’s fire is now just a cool story. Aloha, and don’t step on any sleeping giants.
