What to Do This New Year's
New Year’s can feel lonely for a lot of people. Social media is full of couples kissing at midnight and huge group photos. If you’re solo or feeling a bit low, do this: send a silly text. A simple “Hey, hope you’re snacking well tonight!” can brighten someone’s whole evening.
You don’t need a crowded party to feel connected. A five-minute call with a friend who lives far away can feel like a hug through the phone. This year, I’m planning to text my old college roommate a meme we still laugh about. That’s my big plan.
Connection isn’t about quantity. It’s about a single, warm moment. That’s enough.

Give Yourself Permission to Be Boring
Here’s a secret: it’s completely okay to be in bed by 10 PM. You don’t have to stay up until midnight if you’re tired. The clock doesn’t know if you’re awake or asleep. January 1st arrives either way.
I once spent New Year’s Eve in pajamas, reading a mystery novel while my cat snored on my lap. I woke up at 12:05 AM, saw the fireworks on my phone, smiled, and went back to sleep. Best New Year’s ever.
Don’t let anyone shame you for choosing rest. The new year will still start. You’ll just be more rested and ready for it.
