Good Witch of the South Wizard of Oz

Now, you might wonder: “Why is Glinda the only Good Witch in the South?” Well, in the original book by L. Frank Baum, each of the four lands of Oz had a witch. The North and South were good; the East and West were wicked.

So Glinda is the last Good Witch standing after the other one moves to the north. She’s like the final boss of kindness. No fireballs, no curses—just relentless positivity and a magic bubble that doesn’t pop when it hits a tree.

Also, fun fact: In the movie, Glinda is played by Billie Burke, who basically invented the “glittery, floaty, slightly flighty” witch aesthetic. She’s the reason every Halloween costume shop sells those sparkly pink gowns.

Why She’s the Best Character (Don’t @ Me)

Let’s compare: The Wicked Witch of the West has flying monkeys, a castle, and a crystal ball. Glinda has… a bubble. And yet, she wins. She wins because she understands that true power comes from helping others find their own strength.

She doesn’t defeat the Wicked Witch herself. Instead, she nudges Dorothy, Scarecrow, Tin Man, and Lion to become the heroes they needed to be. That’s called leadership, folks. It’s like being a coach who cheers from the sidelines while you trip over your own feet—and then you still score the goal.

And let’s not forget the iconic line: “You’ve always had the power, my dear. You just had to learn it for yourself.” Boom. Mic drop. If that’s not the most uplifting thing you’ve ever heard, I don’t know what is.
